ADVENTURES IN ALBUM ART: Jeremy Bradley Earl (WOODSIST)
Jeremy Bradley Earl is not only a multi-instrumentalist in the California band Woods (one of my favorite bands of the moment), but he also runs the label Woodsist, which has released music from friends Wavves and Vivian Girls. Earl does the artwork for the label and lately it has followed a distinct format: candid vintage photo or collage on the front cover and free-form, highly stylistic illustrations on the back. There isn’t much information as to where the photos come from and that makes them even more intriguing. In the case of recent releases by Woods and Wavves, the fronts are reminiscent of Jandek’s mysterious album covers and the backs are strange, expressive, doodle-esque and occasionally aztec influenced. Have a look:

Jeremy Bradley Earl’s artwork has been collected in a book entiteled Skull, which you can purchase from the Woodsist website.
