A Full Plate 3rd Annual Rib Off – ROOT and Ribs

The Full Plate Rib Off this year was an absolute success! Close to 600 people lined up and piled into the street where the professionals and ameteurs were grilling, smoking and marinating since the early hours of the day. For a small fee people we able to taste  foods from the top BBQers in the city, drink some Stoudt’s beer and sample ROOT.

The professional division:  El Camino Real, Bar Ferdinand, North Bowl, Darling’s Diner, Q BBQ and Tequila, Sonata, Koozeedoo, Mermaid BBQ, Tower Investments.

The amateur division full of talent and interesting names: Little Mermaid BBQ, Mediocre BBQ, Ribbed for her Pleasure, Garden State Porkway, SoCo-licious, George Wells, Smokey Crossbones, Pork Sword, Got Ribs?, Pork Barrel Politics

Aside from all of the delicious offerings from the teams, A Full Plate supplied the rest of the good. Like the amazing Rust ‘n’ Root cupcakes by E.

And now we maybe have been biased but Q BBQ and Tequila had some of the best food around. Their brisket and vegetarian dish was made with ROOT!  And at the end of the day the crowd votes proved us correct.  Q BBQ took first place on both of those dishes.  Now we all know they are talented in the smoking and grilling but it can’t just be coincidence that both of their winners were ROOT infused.

The judging was blind and each dish was judged from 1 to 10 on Tenderness, Taste and Appearance.  Here are the first place winners:

VEGETARIAN
Professional 1st Place = Q BBQ and Tequila Bar
Amateur 1st Place = Mediocre BBQ

BRISKET
Professional 1st Place = Q BBQ and Tequila Bar

ANYTHING GOES
Amateur 1st Place = Smokey Crossbones

RIBS
Professional 1st Place = Fran from Tower Investments
Amateur 1st Place = George Wells Meats

CROWD FAVORITE
Sonata

Hope to see you next year!
