And The Award for Best Hand-Made Musical Press Kit Goes To... Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band!

This week I find myself falling in love with many material goods. This statement sounds awfully trite, but the designer/artmaker part of my brain will never cease to be enthralled with tactility and objecthood. And never more so than when I first held in my wee hands, the press kit for a new Seattle-based band...

So I would now like to unabashedly declare my love for Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, and award them the prize for Best Hand-Made Musical Press Kit. They are a complete package, the whole shebang! The Five Member troupe is comprised of a married couple, a 13-year-old boy, and two assorted bearded men. Here is a further breakdown:

THE GOODS: A promo copy of the band's first release, Weepy EP, with what appears to be a neon spray-paint gradient, was housed in a hand-stitched pouch of brightly colored felt. The package included glitter stickers of snack foods, a handful of toy soldiers, and a lovely band poster. Textiles and toys are the way to my heart!

THE TUNES: Whimsical, yet crafted Indie-Rock. Bouncy, layered group vocals. Highly recommended for fans of MAN MAN, Wolf Parade and The Kinks.

THE SUGGESTION: Grab yourself an exclusive track from our friends over at The Walrus Music Blog, and check out their awesome and bizarre promotional video, Homeostasis. If you like what you hear and see, then spread the love!
