Art In The Age + The Historical Society of Pennsylvania = Limited Edition Stationery Run
Art In The Age has partnered with the esteemed Historical Society of Pennsylvania to produce a limited edition run of holiday cards, featuring artwork from the HSP collection. Pictured above are two images from the holiday card archives.
These images, in their original forms, were printed using chromolithography in the late 1800s. This meticulous and tedious process involved a skilled lithographer building layers of flat color onto a paper print using solvents and oil-based pigments on a stone slab. These cards, in their reproduced forms, were printed on traditional offset presses. This process involves the transfer of image from printing plate to rubber roller to paper.
Three more stationery designs are in the works over at Mad Maude Letterpress. These black and white designs will feature Civil War themed images, and will be printed by Original Heidelberg Windmill presses. The 5-card set will be available in the Art In The Age Store in the coming days, so stop by 116 North Third and have a look in person!
