Attention All Drawing Fans….
Today I decided to poke my nose into what appeared to be the most boring looking book in our library. Much to my surprise, it was easily one of the top 5 of drawing books I have ever seen, called, Drawings on Geology. Serge Onnen created a compilation of drawings based on the concept of the Horizon, quoted on the interior flap: “The horizon is the simplest thing one can draw, but the horizon doesn’t exist. If you up end the horizon and push it down, you will have geology.”
Reading this, you know not to expect your typical Bob Ross tree landscapes, but instead, an interpretive mix of old world and contemporary drawings. I especially enjoyed the very archaic, end-of-the-world style pages. All in black and white, it values the texture and quality of the human drawn in a way most books tend to compromise. The book itself is carefully bound with a modest chipboard cover enclosed with an elastic band. Next to all the rest of my sketchbooks, this book will easily find a home in my own collection.
