BOOK REVIEW: Seventy-Nine Short Essays on Design
Dear All Folks Who Call Themselves Graphic Designers,
Do yourselves a HUGE favor. Get your hands on this book immediately. Consume contents. Repeat…79 times.
Michael Bierut (principal at Pentagram, blogger extraordinaire, former AIGA prez…) brings us a compilation of selected writings from the ever-cutting-edge Design Observer blog. Each essay is 2-4 pages and offers serious, yet palatable insight into the ins and outs, ups and downs of the professional designer’s everyday life. Serious, witty, sarcastic, and sagacious…this is definitely NOT snooze-worthy theory or obnoxious soapboxing. I was shocked to find that I actually related to most of the sentiments in each essay (set in 79 different typefaces, of course!)
A definite must-have to round out your bookshelf. Also, check out this awesome Michael Bierut video interview from The Atlantic…
