The term, corpse carries a rather dark stigma among most conversations, however, the traditional surrealist game, Exquisite Corpse, practiced in the 1920’s, as begun by Andres Breton, has maintained a lively form of creative practice. Exquisite Corpse, (French term: cadavre exquis), consists of a sequential collection of images or text with an objective to complete a figure. It begins with someone drawing the head and folding the completed image over for the next artist to continue the parts of the body until fully formed in its random imagination.
Since then, the concept of Exquisite Corpse, has been interpreted in many forms, yet keeps its collaborative tradition alive among artists today, such as the Cadaver Coprse, curated by Tessa Perutz at Space 1026. The exhibition runs from July 3 - 31, 2009 and are represented by international artists as follows:
Joshua Abelow, Matias Arganaraz, Derek Aylward, Dessarae Bassil, Ben Bauman, James Connolly, Moira Connelly, Garrett Durant, Ry Fyan, Kathy Grayson, Patrick Griffin, Maureen Gubia, Ghazal Hashemi, Bjorn Hegardt, Cody Hudson, Christopher Ilth, Bruce Ingram, Aislinn Jefferies, Billy Kang, Leslie Kulesh, Alex Lengyel, Chris Lux, Kristen MacGregor, JJ Manford, Orion Martin, Eddie Martinez, Mario Martinez, Jude MC, Christopher Milhausen, Zane Morris, Jayson Musson, Jordan Nickel, Aliza Nisenbaum, KC Ortiz, Angel Otero, Eric Perkins, Lucy Perutz, Matt Phillips, Tyson Reeder, Max Roseglass, Kid Sister, Thomas Stavnes, Greg Stimac, Ola Vasiljeva, Justin B.
