Calling All Photographers, Printers, and Retouchers!
The newly unveiled Philadelphia Photo Arts Center is a non-profit artist space slash community center in North Philly, currently offering photography based events and exhibits as well as printing/scanning services and classes open to interested parties—from the dabbling point-and-shooter to the next Sarah Stolfa (who, it just so happens, is PPAC’s founder and executive director).
If it’s being behind the camera that floats your boat, you’ll be excited to learn that you can bring in your work for critique on the third Thursday of every month. (Attendance is open to the public, but critiques are limited to PPAC members. Memberships range from $50-$350 and include various levels of access, instructions, and discounts.)
If, however, it’s taking in a completed opus or two that strikes your fancy, PPAC has an impressive lineup of special events and exhibitions you might be interested in. They’ll be hosting photographer Mitch Epstein on November 5th for a lecture and signing of his new book American Power, which examines the production and use of energy in American Society. And if you can’t make the lecture (or even if you can), make sure to check out PPAC’s current exhibition of local photographers in the Crane Arts building. Titled NEXT: Emerging Philadelphia Photographers, the show will be up through November 29th.
