DESIGN RESOURCE: Meet Your Printmaker
For the religiously inclined, meeting one’s maker constitutes a divine and spiritual experience.
Meeting one’s printmaker, to the tactilely and artfully inclined, may result in parallel sentiment.
Kevin O’Neill, a graphic designer based out of Washington D.C., started the site MEET YOUR PRINTMAKER as a resource for designers and artists. He profiles print shops all over the US (and abroad) by providing photographs of the shop’s work and a brief summary. The listings are categorized according to technique for easy filtering.
From the website:
Meet Your Printmaker is a growing directory of print/printmaking shops around the world with a focus on the independent, the non-profit, the handmade and the unique.
I’ve discovered several gems, courtesy of MEET YOUR PRINTMAKER:
- Starshaped Press in Chicago uses only antique type.
- Sycamore Street Press in Columbus, OH is a husband-wife duo with a Vandercook letterpress in their dining room!
Whether you’re looking for a private press for your next custom business card job, or just need some inspiration for hand-tooled type and graphics…step right up and MEET YOUR PRINTMAKER!
