First Friday Exhibition: “STANDSTILL”, New work by Beth Beverly and Ole Bye!

ART IN THE AGE
Standstill
December 4, 2009–January 31, 2010
Opening Reception: December 4th, 6-8pm

This Friday, Art in the Age is pleased to announce our latest exhibition featuring new works by Beth Beverly and Ole Bye.

This exhibition unites two artists who bring forth a mindful stare into nature, distilled by way of preservation, addressing its vitality and the imminent change toward material culture.

Beth Beverly, a local artist and Junior Taxidermist, creates whimsical sculptures using mounted animals with found objects. Materials such as pearls and discarded jewelry are paired with textures of soft furs and feathers, evoking a new kind of beauty reminiscent of luxury and pleasure.

Ole Bye, a resident of rural West Virginia, recreates historical landscapes in three-dimensional custom models within the confines of a glass bottle as a means to prolong its current state of decay. Inspired by the coalfields of West Virginia, he relies on historical photographs to assemble each meticulously crafted piece and provides a certificate explaining the features within each model.

Hey Sue, there isn't any magic to it unfortunately. Everything goes in piece by piece and gets glued in place with tiny drops of glue. I use a lot of long tools made out of bent pieces of wire. There's a little more info here on my website:

I'm glad you liked my work!
