GUEST BLOG IIII: The Adventures of Andy Bowness – Reading Terminal Market!

Being British, to me a market is a place stallholders compete to shout the loudest about their extremely reasonably priced, if rather ripe, fruit. Sure, we get farmers markets every so often, but I’m lucky if one of them swings into town once a month and even then it’s usually so overpriced that I ed up buying nothing anyway.

When I heard about Reading Terminal Market (and its touristy reputation) I suspected that there would be some serious price inflation going on, but since I am a tourist in this city I felt it would be remiss of me not to check it out, and I found myself to be very pleasantly surprised. If I lived closer to RTM I’d probably shop there every day, or at least stop in for a sweet-tooth-satisfying $1 cupcake from Termini Brothers, because I’ve found most of the fresh produce to be just as good as my local market, and a whole lot cheaper (cough Trader Joe’s cough), and I really like the way that they’ve managed to create a food court that doesn’t aspire to mediocrity, somewhere that I actually enjoy the hustle and bustle rather than thinking of it as a last resort.

Additionally, visiting Reading terminal Market also gave me an excellent opportunity to tick off one of the things I wanted to do, see Amish people (I don’t really know why), and I didn’t even have to travel to Lancaster County!
