Happy 200th, Lincoln! The Rosenbach Museum & Library Launches 21st Century Abe!
Two hundred years ago in a one-room log cabin in southeast Kentucky, a baby boy was born. His parents were not formally educated and made a living by working the land of their family farm.
Fifty years later, that same child from rural America became the 16th President of The United States of America. Today, Abraham Lincoln is one of the most celebrated figures in U.S. History. We have honored this great American with a month-long exhibition at our store/gallery: The Great Lincoln! Memorial Tableaux.
Our friends at The Rosenbach Museum & Library are also paying homage to Honest Abe. For the past few months, the curators have been keeping a blog about “what fun, exciting, or downright ridiculous things the curatorial team have discovered in their search for Lincoln.” This morning, two hundred years since his birth, a new Lincoln was born…
21st Century Abe is The Rosenbach’s full website for the celebration of all aspects of Abe, past and present. The site features in-depth views and interpretations of rare Lincoln documents by both scholars and practicing creatives (Musician Bryce Dessner and artist Maira Kalman, to name a few). The site is also interactive, featuring many areas for users to submit their own content: music, videos, photos, comments, and poster designs.
So, what are you waiting for?
Click yourself on over to 21st Century Abe, and join in the birthday festivities!
