Reputed as one of the oldest historical societies in the nation, The Historical Society of Pennsylvania houses over 600,000 prints, over 19 million manuscripts and treasured graphics. Founded in 1824 by seven men, its collection is currently owned by the Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia and today remains a prominent special collections library resource. April celebrates its 100 year anniversary of its building currently located at 13th and Locust in Philadelphia. For sixty years, the society was nomadic, having moved from locations such as South Sixth St. (parlor of co-founder, Thomas Wharton) to Washington Square (third floor of the Athenaeum).
