Online Locavore Resource: RegionalBest.com!

For those of us  who lead hyper-busy lives in an urban environment, eating local is not always simple or convenient. Saturday mornings are for sleeping in after a week from hell at the office, not for rising at 7 am to bike to the Farmer’s Market for the best produce picks. It’s not easy to get out to the ‘burbs without a car, and sometimes, it’s nearly impossible on a weeknight to make it to Whole Foods before closing. Or maybe (as I know has been the case with me on several occasions), I am literally too psychologically exhausted to take up the torch and feel good about being a contributing and active member of the locavore scene.

If you can relate to any of these scenarios, then I have really great news for you. Eating local just got significantly easier thanks to a new site I was recently tipped off about…

REGIONALBEST.COM

An aggregator and e-commerce site, RegionalBest.com sources local food vendors ranging from raw produce to hand-churned ice cream and makes these product offerings available online! You can search by region or category, and have a wide array of staples and delicacies delivered right to your door!

RegionalBest.com was created by Marsha and Caragh, two women who are working hard to reconcile local eating with convenience.

From RegionalBest.com…

“We have a passion for great food, and are committed to supporting local farmers, ranchers, fishermen and small companies across America. We’re seasoned business and marketing PR executives with extensive food industry experience. And, we are moms who care about serving our families good, wholesome foods.

Marsha lives in suburban Philadelphia with her husband and two young teenagers. She’s originally a farm girl from West Texas, where she grew up on local food — her own family’s bounty of meats, fruits and vegetables.

Caragh lives in the Boston area with her husband and four children. She’s a lifelong New Englander, who at an early age, was exploring local farms and farm stands and picking wild Maine blueberries.”

Thanks to Marsha and Caragh, I discovered a wonderful treat: Heavenly Hedgehog Ice Cream, a family-run business  right in Bethlehem, PA! I learned more about Heavenly Hedgehog, and could place an order online for their featured flavor, “Ben’s Berry Blast“!

The RegionalBest Blog showcases vendors and new products and also features great recipe ideas and seasonal meal tips.

While it would not be feasible to internet-order your entire pantry from RegionalBest, I think this is a really awesome resource for planning ahead and incorporating some new, local treats into your eating routine! And you can DEFINITELY sleep in on the weekend, so long as you’re at the door to receive your delivery!
