Philagrafika as seen from atop and aboard!

We all need to make promises to ourselves during the so-called, never ending winter months. Despite the arctic freeze, in order to stay warm one must not only nourish the “body” with warm spirits (aka hotty toddies), but also “stimulate” the mind before the most anticipated arts festival, Philagrafika 2010, is over.
Two of the must see shows in very non-traditional exhibition spaces include:
1. Duke Riley‘s at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania about the 50% fictional narrative installation of Ralston Laird’s reclaimed ownership of Petty’s Island (refer back to my past blog post of the back story here)

2. Cannonball Press’ artist book installation inside the USS Olympia, the world’s oldest steel warship still afloat, currently docked at Philadelphia’s Seaport. Founding artists of the Brooklyn based print collective and micro-publisher, Martin Mazorra and Mike Houston, created a re-interpretation of the newsletter once made as an edition for on board sailors of the USS Olympia called, The Bounding Billow”. This installation is made possible by the Barra Foundation and is part of the Out of Print program, Philagrafika 2010.
