Philly’s Iconic Shirt Corner to Get A New Façade, Courtesy of Art In The Age
Two days ago, Philadelphia Inquirer reporter, Monica Yant-Kinney, wrote an article (Turning A Corner In Old City: A Landmark Store Will Depart 3rd & Market) regarding the closing of Marvin Ginsberg’s Shirt Corner in Old City, after almost 50 years in business. The store is well known for its sign (sprawling blue white and red paint across the entire façade) and has been unmistakable since Ginsberg had it painted in 1980.
Gyro Advertising CEO, Steven Grasse is quoted in the article as saying “It is the ugliest store I have ever seen.” He still agrees with this comment, made a few years ago, and would like to offer to re-paint the façade of the building immediately since it is such an eyesore, courtesy of Art In The Age.
Grasse is offering to re-paint the building using Philadelphia artists that Art in the Age works with. He will repaint it for free, but it has to be a design chosen by Art In The Age. He says” This is a great way to make the Old City shopping district less grotesque, and a great way to put local artists to work.”
