Praise Be To ROOT
If a rich history is an indicator of authenticity and originality, then, much like ROOT, The Church Brew Works has a tale worth many a retelling.
Before emerging as one of the most unique brewpubs in Pittsburg, The Church Brew Works was known as St. John the Baptist. The original building was constructed in 1878 to meet the demand of a surging Irish and Scotch Catholic immigrant population.
Despite the church’s long-standing role as a house of worship it was placed under an act of suppression in 1993 and remained abandoned until 1996, when The Church Brew Works reopened the historic building’s doors—this time to food, beer, and spirit liquor worship. They’ve been serving up hand-crafted beer and eclectic American food ever since.
In fact, with ROOT now on the menu, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more authentic American dining experience. So make sure to stop by The Church for a shot of ROOT and a toast to history!
