PROCEED AND BE BOLD! Documentary: If You Thought Film Was Powerful, Try A Printing Press
I do believe that Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. is my new printmaking hero.
An audacious letterpress printer, Amos Kennedy pushes the boundaries of traditional letterpress technique while making powerful statements on race and social class in rural America.
Based out of Alabama, Kennedy Prints produces gorgeous text-based posters in highly limited edition runs (usually around 100). His straightforward aesthetic and his no-nonsense outlook on life are a testament to the value of honest labour and down-to-earth American craftsmanship.
The ladies of Chicago-based Brown Finch Films seem to agree with me. They have produced a documentary in tribute to Amos Kennedy Jr. The film features interviews with friends, relatives, and Kennedy himself, as well as live footage from the shop. View the trailer here…
