ROOT + JOE
For those of you who aren’t the regular cocktail drinkers and want a way to enjoy Root with your beers, why not go ahead and mix the two?? Our old ROOT “Beer” recipe called for Root and any ol’ dark beer. But once we tried it with Philadelphia Brewing Company’s Joe Coffee Porter, we’re not sure we’d want to drink it any other way.
ROOT “Beer”
2 oz. ROOT
8 oz. dark beer PBC’s Joe Coffee Porter
Add Root to Joe Coffee Porter in a tall glass. Enjoy.
About the seasonal brew from PBC:
Joe is not your average beer. This ale is brewed with locally-roasted, fair trade coffee, Dark Munich and chocolate malts which combine to create a well-balanced, flavorful Porter with a fresh roasted coffee aroma. Good from the first drop.
We use 2.5 pounds of coffee in each barrel of this robust porter.
Available in both bottles and kegs for a limited time each fall and winter.
5% ALC/VOL

The brewery buildings were originally erected as part of the Weisbrod & Hess Oriental Brewing Company in 1885. While restoring the buildings we took care to preserve the original brewery markings which remained from Weisbrod and Hess. You can see a tile representation of the brewery’s original peacock logo along with the words “Weisbrod and Hess” and “Bottling Department” on the Amber and Hagert corner of our brewery. The current owners purchased the buildings in 2001 and the first round of renovations began. After about six months of hard work the beer began to flow in our historic brewery once again - for the first time since the late 1930’s. A second round of renovations, along with extensive cleaning and repairs, was required after we sold our former brand name in 2007 and reemerged as Philadelphia Brewing Company in 2008. Our brewery buildings provide Philadelphia Brewing Co with ample space to expand brewing capacity long into the future.
