No, this isn’t a plot line for a low budget sci-fi horror movie.
On Wednesday, May 12th, from 6 to 8:30PM the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education and Art in the Age will be hosting a very unique hands-on workshop at the store led by Jason Krugman and Jason Cerrito at the Art in the Age Store.
So what are we making? Bugbots. And what are bugbots? Well, they’re little kits that gather solar energy and release it in bursts to power two small motors, similar to the ones your cell phone needs to vibrate, which in turn causes them to scoot around randomly. Much like bugs.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to construct one of these vibro-bot. These Bugbots will respond directly to the intensity of the light that they are exposed to, using solar energy to power two vibrating pager motors. On a sunny day they will skitter about frantically…On cloudy days they will move intermittently as they build up energy.
If you’re looking to learn a little more about solar electronics and circuit construction and receive a souvenir for your hard work, then May 12th is the day for you! Participants need no prior experience in this field. Just come with a willingness to learn! But hurry, space and supplies are extremely limited. Please note there is a 15 years old age restriction for this event.
