With blisters and sweat
In a rivulet
And hours of roto-tilling
All in a row

Reading, Riting, and ‘Rithmetic only get you so far until it’s time to roll up your sleeves, lace up your boots, and get out in the sun. After months of staying up late, reading gardening and homesteading books and magazines, it was time to hit the soil running. Er, tilling.

FOOD! NOT LAWNS!

The day started early with a drive to a local hardware store to rent a 10 horsepower rototiller.

The next 6 hours were spent working side by side with a friend, tearing up the grass with a 300-lb. machine, raking the aftermath, and repeating…
…and repeating…
…and…
