The Blushing of Spring: “The world is mud-luscious”

New-England-born poet, e.e. cummings described the view out my back door the best with his poem “In Just–“…

In Just-
spring when the world is mud-
luscious the little
lame baloonman

The winter ground-freeze has turned to spring ground-thaw. Technically speaking, this change in the state of water in the ground causes soil percolation (AKA – slippery brown squishy MUD!)

‘Tis the season for trucks stuck on the side of the road in knee-deep sludge.

‘Tis the season for weight limits on all dirt roads.

‘Tis the season for the bizarre practice of “muddin‘”

My intrepid feline contemplating the road (usually) not taken…

Remember when they were THIS TINY?!?!? (sorry, tangent)

To simulate what my Spring in New Hampshire sounds like, do the following:

1. Throw open all your windows and doors.

2. Sit on the back stoop in your pajamas, eating soup

3. Download  the MP3 below: “My Name Is Mud” by classic country sensation Porter Wagoner

4. Turn up the volume and blast it through your open door.
