The G20 Summit and ROOT Hit Pittsburgh!

Pittsburgh may forever be known as The Steel City, but who says that’s necessarily a bad thing? Steel is strong, persevering, and a foundation for many great structures—just like Pittsburgh itself. In recent years Philly’s neighbor to the west has bounced back from a late-20th century economic downturn and reclaimed its place in the global market, largely through manufacturing, communication technology, and a burgeoning health care industry.

With good reason, then, President Obama has chosen Pittsburgh as the next location for the G20 economic summit, which will join financial leaders from across the world to discuss economic issues (and Pittsburgh’s financial situation in particular) on September 24th and 25th at the brand new David L. Lawrence Convention Center—the world’s first green convention center.

Watching from a(not too)far will be another city founded on ingenuity and determination: Philadelphia. But Pittsburgh and Philadelphia have more in common than just ingenuity, determination, and the letter P. They both have ROOT! It would appear that Pennsylvania’s palate is maturing and expanding, and the world is taking notice.
