The New Hampshire Scoreboard – Insects: 1, Robin: 0

It is said, in jest, that New Hampshire’s REAL State Bird is the Black Fly.

I say, NOT in jest, that New Hampshire’s REAL State Bird is The Black Fly, The Deer Fly, and the Mosquito. In the great game of “Farm Life,” I am getting my ass kicked, on and off the field. No pun intended.

Here is an up close and personal look at these pesky, painful fellers…

Mr. Black Fly

Ms. Deer Fly

Master Mosquito

And now for the battle scars, inflicted over the course of TEN MINUTES of hanging laundry 2 nights ago…

UNACCEPTABLE. And they itch LIKE THE DEVIL.

So I got in the car, cranked the AC, and ran in to Rivendell Farm Natural Foods Store in Chocorua.

Kelly, the wonderful NATURAL FOOD GODDESS, directed me to a line of products, made in Eaton, NH, called “Garden Dreams.”

I Can’t Be Bothered! Bug Off Body Products…are soothing and WORK WONDERS. Ingredients: essential oils of lavender, catnip, pennyroyal, eucalyptus, lemongrass, cedar wood, and a little patchouli. I picked up a bottle of the Bug Off – Body Oil. Not only is it keeping bugs away, but it’s soothing the pulsating welts I already have, and is safe to put everywhere!

Looks like the underdog is finally making a good fight!
