VIDEO: Baking “The Good Reverend’s Ginger Snap Cookies” with Reverend Michael Alan

The Reverend Michael Alan is the exclusive illustrator behind all of the Art in the Age SNAP artwork, and is also a very talented baker.  He has collaborated frequently with Philadelphia’s Wild Flour Bakery, and almost always has some delicious creation baking in the oven.  The Reverend has been hard at work creating new recipes inspired AITA SNAP,  and his latest, “The Good Reverend’s Ginger Snap Cookies,” is already a huge hit.

Inspired by the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch ingredients used to create SNAP, the Reverend created his classic ginger snap cookie using fresh local ingredients.

Follow along as the Reverend Michael Alan walks you through the process.

The first batch turned out amazing, and the smells wafting from the oven were enough to send anyone into a ginger and molasses induced trance.

While we waited for the second batch, we decided to drizzle a little SNAP over rich vanilla ice cream.  Needless to say this was the perfect accompaniment to one of “The Good Reverend’s Ginger Snap Cookies” right out of the oven.

We highly recommend you try this recipe at home, and you can find the following ingredients at your local specialty foods store and farmer’s market.

All Purpose Flour

Baking Soda

Ginger

Clove

Cinnamon

Fresh Butter

Lard

Molasses (equal parts black strap and baking molasses)

Sour Milk (equal parts whole milk and lemon juice)

Granulated Sugar
