Wallpaper Straight out of the 18th and 19th Centuries

Google “wallpaper” and you’re bound to turn up more than 100 million results–most of them undoubtedly offering desktop wallpapers or hocking legit wallpapers, but ones produced cheaply, by machine, and in high volume.

But not Adelphi Paper Hangings. In fact, the fine folks at Adelphi even set themselves apart from most other historic wallpaper manufacturers–and all such manufacturers in the United States–because they utilize “the same methods and materials employed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.” That means each order is individually block pinted by hand using materials appropriate to Adelphi’s 1720-1860 time frame (so determined because machine printing began to dominate the wallpaper industry by the mid-19th century).

Check out some photos of the block printing process below! Also, be sure to peruse Adelphi’s catalog, which is broken down by time period.

Thanks to design*sponge for bringing Adelphi to our attention!
