APRIL EXHIBITION: THE ART OF BEEKEEPING

Posted by:Dan on March 29th, 2012

During the month of April, The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild will showcase the ancient tradition of beekeeping, highlighting a variety of modern hives types and beekeeping techniques within the Art in the Age gallery space.

For the exhibition, each hive will be painted by select local artists to represent important milestones in beekeeping history. The Beekeepers Guild and Art in the Age hope to increase awareness of, and interest in, the central role that bees play in our food systems, while promoting community participation in the sustainable conservation of the honeybee.

Featuring hives by: Michael Alan, Jesse Mademann, Leanne Biank, Nicholas Polidore, Aaron Birk, Suzanne Matlock

Join us for an artists reception and lecture at the Art in the Age Store; Thursday, April 26th, 6:30-8:30PM

RHUBY Recipe: Lucky Peach

Posted by:Dan on March 26th, 2012

Inspired by our favorite culinary journal, Lucky Peach, and the release of David Gelb’s documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi“,  we decided to create a refreshing RHUBY cocktail that was light enough for pre-sushi sipping.

We couldn’t wait for peach season, so we decided to mix frozen peach puree with fresh mango and fresh ginger for a spicy-sweet juice blend.  We also wanted to incorporate egg white, after learning about the incredibly painstaking process of creating the egg sushi at the acclaimed Sukiyabashi Jiro. Combined with RHUBY, sake, and an experimental batch of peach bitters from Hella Bitter, this cocktail is the perfect before dinner drink, or warm weather refresher.

LUCKY PEACH

2 parts RHUBY
2 parts sake
4 parts peach/mango/ginger puree
1 egg white
10 dashes Hella Bitter peach (sub Hella aromatic bitters)

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add RHUBY, sake, fruit puree, and egg white.
Shake vigorously until white and frothy.
Pack a highball glass with crushed ice, and strain drink into glass.
Soak the frothy layer of egg white with peach bitters.
Sip with a straw and enjoy!

Posted by:admin on October 17th, 2011

This past weekend we had an amazing time serving SNAP + Cider at Switched on Garden at Bartram’s Garden!

Our tables were right next to John Bartram’s original stone cider press, and we served samples to 700 guests!

Luckily we had a chance to check out Data Garden’s amazing sound installations and performances throughout the night!
