The Farmer's Race

We’re loving this new ad from Hovis Bread, depicting a “Farmers Race“, a cross country race with hundreds of farmers battling various obstacles to cross the finish line.   The tea cup hand-off might just be the best thing we’ve ever seen.   The ad was shot near Macclesfield, Cheshire which is home to the first Hovis mill, with some genuine Hovis farmers who grow British red wheat exclusively for the brand. Director Dougal Wilson chose to shot on 16mm to achieve a raw, grainy look.

This might just be the inspiration we needed for the first ever Lancaster County, PA Farmers Race sponsored by AITA!

ROOT made an appearance last weekend at The Community School’s “All Things Green” Auction (scholarship fund benefit) in the silent bidding and live segment, featuring local personality, George Cleveland! A lovely ROOT gift pack, complete with silkscreened Walter Benjamin Tote and whisky stone set, was donated to a great cause! Look for ROOT again in May at the K.A. Brett School Annual Golf Tournament at Indian Mound Golf Club in Ossipee, NH! The tournament will be held on May 14, and begins at 8:30 am. Another ROOT gift pack will be featured among the raffle items.

And mark your calendars for the ROOT-iful evening of June 19, when the Barnstormer’s Theatre (America’s Oldest Running Summer Theatre…right on Tamworth’s Main Street!) hosts a Pre-Season Fundraiser, featuring a Gordon Clapp (of NYPD blue) as Robert Frost in a not-to-miss one man play!

Anticipating The Best Summer Ever: Tamworth Lyceum Construction & Photo Update!

WE CANNOT WAIT UNTIL SUMMER!

Suspend your disbelief for a moment: The snow is gone, the Swift River is rushing contentedly along, the smell of fresh brewed coffee wafting through the air. You’re kicking back on the spacious back deck, enjoying a delicious muffin and the latest issue of The New England Quarterly. The Chandler & Price is clinking and clanging, cranking out chapbook spreads. In a few moments, you might step inside to check out today’s featured cured meats, cheeses, preserves, and other culinary goodies. As day draws to dusk, maybe you’ll stop back for a visit, and grab a great bottle of wine en route to a backyard potluck.

Things are really coming together at 85 Main Street after a second site visit with the full Lyceum Design/Build team yesterday! Displays are being framed, light placements sketched in, and sweet reclaimed wood finishes pored over. Check out the photo gallery for more snapshots from our group work session:

Renovations to the village store/future Tamworth Lyceum in Tamworth, New Hampshire are moving full steam ahead! Despite the the low temperatures, epic snowbanks, and continuing snowfall (another 9 inches predicted for this weekend — Mother Nature, why do you hate New England-ers so?), the Lyceum construction crew forges onward. Check out the latest pics of the back deck framing in the gallery below. In a few short months, visitors will be able to relax with a drink on this very porch, enjoying the breeze and the rushing waters of the Swift River.

Concurrently, we’re dreaming/scheming/planning for our modest garden patch up at the farm. Mapping out a garden plot for sowing some saved seeds from 2010 and a few new heirloom/organic veggie-types! (Look out for a status report on a few Connecticut Broadleaf tabac plants, rhubarb babies, and a pretty crazy heirloom carrot called “Purple Haze“)
