Get to Know the SNAP Cocktail Competition Judges!

With the 2010 SNAP Cocktail Competition less than a week away we thought it necessary for the folks at home to get to know this year’s judges– Drew Lazor, Charlotte Voisey and Melissa Monosoff!

 

These industry heavy weights will be critiquing SNAP cocktail creations from more than 20 area bars and scoring them based on Taste (50%), Originality (25%) and Presentation (25%).


This year’s competition will be hosted by our friends at Bar Ferdinand and El Camino on September 13th, 7PM – Rain or Shine!

Drew Lazor, Food and Web Editor of Philadelphia City Paper:

As a reporter, Lazor has covered hard news, sports, education and the arts. It was after he began writing about food for the Philadelphia City Paper that he discovered his true passion. Since then, Lazor has taken on the role of Food and Web editor at the City Paper. Lazor launched Meal Ticket, City Paper’s go-to food blog, in October 2008.

These days, Lazor covers just about all things edible and sip-able for that matter. Within recent years, Lazor has frequently been asked to take on the role of Judge, participating in events such as Headhouse Market Iron Chef Competition, The Philadelphia Magazine Cocktail Competition, Food Network’s “Throwdown with Bobby Flay”, Hendrick’s Gin Cocktail Competition, BeerCamp Philly 2009, Philly Cooks! 2010– and the list goes on.

 

Charlotte Voisey, Portfolio Ambassador and Company Mixologist, William Grant & Son’s USA:

Charlotte Voisey is the Company Mixologist for William Grant &  Sons USA and was recognized by the James Beard Foundation this year for contribution to mixology in addition to being named the Best American Brand Ambassador at the Tales of the Cocktail 2010. Charlotte’s has contributed to major industry events like the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, Sante Symposium, Las Vegas Nightclub & Bar Show, Spirits of Mexico, Aspen Food & Wine,  South Beach Food & Wine, Cheers Beverage Conference and Tales of the Cocktail where Charlotte has twice won the Golden Spirit Award for Best  Presenter in 2007 and 2009! 

In recent years, Charlotte’s vibrant personally has become a mainstay on national television as seen on Top Chef Masters, CBS The Early Show and Fine Living’s Bartender Wars. Charlotte’s cocktail contributions are  represented in some of the best bars in the world including The Dorchester Hotel, London, Gramercy Park Hotel, New York City, Mandarin  Oriental, Las Vegas and the Fairmont Hotel, Santa Monica, LA.

 

Melissa Monosoff Master Sommelier and Beverage Manager of Savona Restaurant:

Ms. Monosoff is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has honed her skills at the top restaurants in Philadelphia as a cook, sommelier, bartender and beverage director. Currently, she is the Sommelier and Beverage Manager for Savona Restaurant in Gulph Mills, PA and is the consulting Sommelier to the Pennsylvania LCB. 
Monosoff earned her Master Sommelier Diploma in February of 2010, she is the first in Pennsylvania and 17th woman in the world to hold this title!

Her passion for all things wine and beer related, have earned her several accolades.  In 2009 and 2010 both Philadelphia Magazine and Main Line Magazine named her “Best Sommelier.”  Wine & Spirits Magazine recognized her as one of America’s “Best Young Sommeliers” in 2004.  In addition she was awarded the Bronze Medal in the national Jeune Sommeliers competition sponsored by the Chaine des Rotisseurs.
