JUNE WORKSHOP: Natural Dyeing with BLUEREDYELLOW
WHAT
BLUEREDYELLOW is a design and natural dye house creating locally grown color on chemical-free textiles in Philadelphia. They are working toward creating completely local clothing including the color, the fabric and the finished sewn piece.
Founders, Elissa Meyers and Mira Adornetto, will lead a hands-on workshop at the Art in the Age store demonstrating the natural dyeing process from beginning to end. Meyers and Adornetto will also give a brief lecture on the history of natural dyeing and explain how they developed their dyeing techniques for BLUEREDYELLOW.
All participants will have the opportunity to dip-dye a handkerchief using the Shibori dyeing process and a naturally fermented indigo vat.
Workshop supplies and handkerchiefs will be provided by Art in the Age. Dyeing can be messy, so participants are encouraged to wear old clothing or a smock.
