Franz Nicolay
Franz Nicolay exudes a sort of bohemian quality that is as natural as the music he creates. This music, spread across countless genres and steeped in habitual rebellion, appears to consume the entirety of his persona/life. It’s rich, layered and textural in sound, and both literal and literary in lyrical context.
This variety in song-crafting and performance is most apparent in the many projects Franz is immersed in: The World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Hold Steady, Anti-Social Music and Guignol. Recently, in addition to juggling the commitments of the aforementioned projects, Franz has released a solo record (“Major General” on Fistolo Records) and has been touring the US in celebration of it’s release.
Whilst in Philadelphia, Franz dropped by the AITA HQ to perform for us and share in the artistic exchange taking place within these walls. The results can be seen in the video above and, quite honestly, we could not have dreamt of a better way to spend an afternoon.
