Portland, Maine Adventures – Day 2
Early to bed, early to rise, makes AITA-folk healthy and wise! Day 2 in Portland began with a very early morning walk to the East End & Munjoy Hill neighborhoods, all the way to East End Beach, and back to Old Port/Wharf by following a railroad. Our favorite stops from DAY TWO of Portland-Exploration are as follows:
DUCKFAT: The “sister” spot to Hugo’s (from Day 1). Enjoyed a cone of divine fries cooked in duckfat (!) with truffle ketchup and garlic aioli and salads of fresh, local greens.
Eli Phant: An inviting and eclectic shop of hand-made, hand-printed goods by local and not-so-local artists/crafters! Owners Sally & Peter are two of our favorite new Portland people!
Ferdinand: Proprietress & artist extraordinaire, Diane Toepfer, offers an exciting array of letterpressed (Heidelberg! Yeah!!) goods, silkscreened shirts, and vintage finds in her East End storefront/studio.
Angela Adams: The storefront for designer Angela Adams. We love her vibrant patterns for textiles, rugs, and other home goods!
Two Fat Cats Bakery: The smells emanating from this bustling patisserie on India Street are beyond words. We drooled over pies and breads (made from scratch from organic/local ingredients), and dropped of a bit o’ ROOT for experimentation!
The Rosemount Market & Bakery: A happening spot right on top on Munjoy Hill fulfilled both coffee cravings and stomach rumblings. Enjoyed a cup of joe with a morning crowd of other twenty-somethings.
The Blue Spoon: Recommended by the ladies at Black Parrot, the Blue Spoon is a Portland Brunch must-visit!
