Make it Snappy
March 18,2011 by jenny

As Marcy mentioned, I was at Brewer’s Plate last weekend. It’s a fundraiser for Fair Food Philly where local breweries and restaurants are paired together and offer delicious samples. It’s held at the UPenn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. There’s nothing quite like sipping a glass of craft beer next to ancient cultural artifacts. While I had my camera in tow, I was just able to snap a few pictures (shown above) between bites and sips. I was more preoccupied with navigating through the crowd and jumping from line to line for a taste of all the event had to offer.

I was thoroughly surprised by a new feature they had this year—the Speakeasy—a room for all things sweet, paired with liquors. Locally run Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction was there pouring their flagship liquor Root as well as the newly released Snap. I’ve been dying to try Snap and it was worth the wait. Snap is a ginger-snap influenced 80 proof liquor that is perfect on the rocks or mixed into a cocktail. It’s sweet (molasses & brown sugar), yet spicy (ginger) with a hint of savory (cloves & nutmeg) and great when mixed with apple cider. Betty’s Speakeasy even created the Aw Snap!, a milk chocolate fudge with Snap and Moroccan spices. Simply delightful.
You can find both Root and Snap in Pennsylvania state stores.
