Tales of the Cocktail: Opening Day
In a torrid haze of summer heat, po’ boys up to here and true exhilaration of a spirits industry reunion, Tales of the Cocktail is officially in full swing.
Personal highlights: Catching Jackson Cannon cleanly slicked from a dip in the Hotel Monteleone’s rooftop pool, grazing on a muffaletta and boudin with Stephen Shellenberger at Napoleon House, and overhearing, “No one [outside of New Orleans] is getting a good f—king drink in a week, because everyone’s here,” at the William Grant & Sons house party at Elms Mansion.
Best drink of the night. The smoky, elegant Lapsong Martinez at the Beefeater bash at the Contemporary Arts Center: Beefeater 24, lillet rouge, lapsang souchong tea syrup
Most fascinating sip. ROOT liqueur by Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction. Sweet, spicy, complex, earthy, potent yet very clean. Smells like the best, most herbaceous root beer you’ve ever had in your life.
Best dressed. Every man in a seersucker suit. Seriously.
P.S. The ladies of LUPEC Boston kindly request bottles of Fernet Branca to be brought to their attention. Apparently it’s a rarity in these parts.
