Modern Pioneers
One of my favorite shows to watch when I was very young was Little House on the Prairie. There was something so quaint and fantastical about a family of pioneers living off the land and enjoying the simpler things that we all seem to take for granted in modern times. Even as a grown woman, I still like to imagine myself hopping through the grass with a bonnet and a lunch pail looking for a new creek to explore. Interestingly enough, after stepping into Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, I had a strong hunch I wasn’t the only one longing for such simple times in a complex millennium.
It was obvious when I walked into the store that I was getting a unique experience. It chooses its brands with the precision of a curator forming a collection: selvage denim, liquor, quilts, original artwork silkscreen tees, all housed in an awesome space. The neatest thing is, the majority of their products are local and made using the highest quality of materials and ingredients. Pair that with monthly exhibits featuring local talent and you’ve got yourself a very literal translation of the store’s name. This is definitely my new hangout for artistic inspiration and local goods.
