Neighborhood Bike Works is a nonprofit educational organization in Philadelphia that seeks to increase opportunities for urban youth through bicycling, and to promote cycling as an environmentally friendly means of transportation.  NBW’s throughout the city provide bicycle workshops in conjunction with Philadelphia community groups and public schools.

Neighborhood Bike Works also offers open shop nights, where cyclists can use the shops tools free of charge, while brushing up on their bicycle maintenance skills.  The NBW South Philly chapter, located at 508 S. 5th Street, between Lombard and South, recently held an open shop event where they sipped ROOT cocktails while tinkering on bikes, and everyone had a blast!

NBW is always looking for bike enthusiasts who’d like to volunteer their time, and be sure to check out their blog for upcoming events.
