Virgil Marti Interview

<img src="http://artintheage.com/site_images/image_32annette_virgil_interview.jpg" alt="art in the age of mechanical reproduction"
Art in The Age of Mechanical Reproduction is proud to announce the start of a new venture; in promotion of peace and agreement between our blog and vlog; vlogged interviews. Now instead of simply seeing an artist's words, you can see and hear the artist speak them, notice the inflection to their voice, and generally get to know them better.

In keeping with our promise to always meet you more then halfway, we solemnly swear our vlog interviews will not be a senseless waste of your very important time. Rather, they will be interesting and arresting, renewing your interest in the arts and in the people who produce them.

Our first vlog interview is with Virgil Marti, a Philadelphia-based artist whose sculptures straddle the divide between art and design, creating "everyday" objects such as wallpaper, chandeliers, and beaded curtains that pair decadent aesthetics with mass culture and the 1970s suburban lifestyle of of his youth. Virgil as been involved with such prestigious institutions as the Whitney Museum of Art (2004 Biennial) and The Fabric Workshop and Museum, he is currently exhibiting some of his work in "Directions" with Pae White at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture garden in Washington D.C.

<img src="http://artintheage.com/site_images/30video_shadow2.jpg" alt="art in the age of mechanical reproduction"
I went ice skating at a local rink that I'm pretty sure is sponsored by a health care company and they played a Depeche Mode song, and I was really blown away that whoever programmed the music stuck this song right in there among bland modern rock and r&b.

Watch the Video

New Sublime Frequencies Film

<img src="http://artintheage.com/site_images/17video_sublime.jpg" alt="art in the age of mechanical reproduction"

A trailer for the new Sublime Frequencies film Musical Brotherhoods from the Trans-Saharan Highway. And I quote: "SUBLIME FREQUENCIES is a collective of explorers dedicated to acquiring and exposing obscure sights and sounds from modern and traditional urban and rural frontiers via film and video, field recordings, radio and short wave transmissions, international folk and pop music, sound anomalies, and other forms of human and natural expression not documented sufficiently through all channels of academic research, the modern recording industry, media, or corporate foundations."

"Hisham Mayet's latest film showcases an assortment of spectacular musical dramas presented live and unfiltered on the home turf of the world's most dynamic string/drum specialists performing and manifesting the ecstatic truth! Ancient mystical brotherhoods have been flourishing for centuries in and around the cities of Marrakesh and Essaouira in Morocco where the trade caravans have gathered from their long journeys across the Trans-Saharan Highway. This is some of the last great street music on Earth."

Here is an interview Hisham Mayet who shot the aforementioned film.
You Tube another SF trailer.
You Tube SF shot off a TV!

Watch the Video
